If you prefer to use rotary cutters as your primary pattern cutting method in the dressmaking process, one of your goals should be to prolong the life of both your rotary blade and your cutting table. For that reason, using a cutting is crucial when working with rotary cutters. Not only will in extend the life of your blade and preserve your cutting table, the cutting mat will provide a surface that is easier and more efficient to cut on. Your rotary cutter should feel sharper when cutting on a designated mat as opposed to a standard hard table surface.
If you are using rotary cutters to primarily cut your sewing patterns, use a larger cutting mat. A larger surface will prevent you form having to constantly shift your pinned sewing pattern as you are cutting each edge thus resulting in a more accurate cut.
